St. Patrick's Day is one of the biggest celebrations of the year and this year, it happens to fall on a Saturday! Here are a few of the things going on throughout the Roaring Fork Valley to help you plan your day and enjoy some green drinks.

ASPEN

St. Patrick's Day at Ryno's

The Greenest Event - St. Patrick's Day Party at The Marble Bar
In the theme of this “green” holiday, Marble Distilling Co., pioneers in sustainable distilling, will continue efforts by gifting stainless steel Marble logo straws to all St. Paddy’s Day revelers in #thelaststraw movement to ban plastic straw usage in Aspen, the Roaring Fork Valley and around the world. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will be in full effect at Marble Bar Aspen (inside the Hyatt Residence Club) complete with festive cocktail specials, live music by The Elk Range Wanders, and a community effort to “go green” and #drinksustainably. 2nd Annual Ullrhof Games
Returning for a second year, bigger and better, the Ullrhof games is a match of the beer drinking titans. Teams compete in traditional games like beer pong, speed quarters, corn hole and stump for prizes and pride. The event includes a deck party, beer and food specials, a DJ, and prize giveaways.

Gary Oldman just won a Golden Globe and Oscar for his stunning depiction of Winston Churchill in this film. What happens when high schoolers are challenged by Artist Mentors to create an original show in only 4 weeks. Come find out! The 2018 VOICES Project connects 8 Artist Mentors with students from Roaring Fork and Basalt HS for an unforgettable night of original, bilingual high school theatre.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration at Redstone Inn

GLENWOOD SPRINGS

Sequoia Glen 5k
The Sequoia Glen 5K in Glenwood Springs benefits local animal rescues within our area. This event begins at 10:00 a.m and it is a $15 fee to enter, it is located at 0211 Donegan Road in west Glenwood Springs! Ring in spring with this great opportunity to be outside while getting some exercise for your favorite animal rescue! Your donation goes to the shelter of your choice! 

Doga & Yogato at Colorado Animal Rescue
Doga will be held at 9:30 and Yogato will be held at 10:45. Classes are 1 hour each.

Prom Attire Giveaway at Glenwood Springs Branch Library
Do you need a formal attire for prom or another special event? The Glenwood Springs Branch Library is collecting donations of prom dresses and suits, which will be available to try on and take home on these dates: Saturday, March 17 from 11:30 am to 4 pm and Wednesday, March 21 from 3 to 6:30 pm. Special thanks to Community Thrift & Treasures, Katie’s Consignment Store, and Lu Lu’s Thrift Store for donating dresses and suits.

Movie Night at First United Methodist Church
Fun for all ages on Saturday, March 17, at 5:00 pm in the Parlor featuring the movie "Coco". The magical animation lights up this colorful tale of adventure that follows a 12 year old Mexican boy who unlocks a family mystery. Please bring a dish to share for dinner.

 

SILT

Ukrainian Eggs at Silt Branch Library
Jaci Spuhler will guide a class through the traditional method of creating a Ukrainian Egg for Easter. A $4 materials fee will be charged. Limit of 10 participants per class; seating goes fast! Call or stop by the library to register.


So Is it St. Paddy's Day or St. Patty's Day?

Paddy is derived from the Irish, Pádraig: the source of those mysterious, emerald double-Ds.

Patty is the diminutive of Patricia, or a hamburger, and just not something you call a fella.

There isn’t a person in Ireland that would refer to a Patrick as “Patty”. It’s as simple as that.
